I would break out of the frame after the first two iterations. By that I mean that you've got a metaphor with dad, mom being animals. But after that it's not poetry, it's just a list of who is which animal. There is nothikng unexpected or beautiful about it. IT's paint by numbers. Try changing the direction — describe an actual zoo, the people there, or something seemingly unrelated that fits. How to do that well is of course the job of writing poetry well.
